Ethoash , the Addis Abeba “ Somali Tera” existed long before the “ Golden” conquered Addis. You seem to imply Meles in making Addis “ Genet” he created the Somali Tera. That is not true. If you for a moment throw your partisan politics away, you will realize Abiy is in the process of making Addis as one the best city in Africa. I am not saying this to make a political point. Not at all. Your uncles thought erecting high rise buildings all over the town makes Addis great. That was a wrong approach.
When I was a kid, I used to go to the three or four libraries the city had. When I returned to Addis after eighteen years, there was no one additional library in the city. But the population of the city probably grew by ten fold. I did not find any new public toilet. The one I knew before were dying.
I am not arguing against having a high rise buildings. Not at all. But a great city should be clean. A great city should be the center of art, music, theatre and Cinema. A great city should develop parks where families spent their free time.
In all those aspect the Addis I visited after eighteen years did not make a slightest change. Believe me Ethoash, if Abiy continues to develop Addis the way he started — I believe he does — Addis Abebans will come to realize the Golden’s time was the lost time.

Helping the needy whether they are Ethiopian or foreigner is our moral obligation as a nation and as Christians. Well said. A deep observation, at least in my view. Now start to wonder how that came about, a long time ago for that matter. I don't think it is something that develops over night. Compare that with the shocking video that came out of Minnesota a couple of days ago.

Once you make this kind of deep observation, the quest for ህዳሴ comes easily. "ity" as in civility and hospitality as well as bravery could have been our people's export capital instead of "ism" as import commodities for them.
