SPAIN - REAL SOCIEDAD
Alexander Isak: "Don't be afraid to try what you would do in training or on Playstation"
(Software translation)
As part of our long format on the science of face-to-face, Alexander Isak, one of the main architects of the great season of Real Sociedad (14 goals in all competitions), gave us his secrets as a finisher.
The success of a face-to-face depends on instinct or work?
Let's say you have to find the middle ground between the two, the right balance.
That is to say?
It's a balance between the two! You have to work hard on your finish to be on or almost to score goals when the match comes but ( he tries his words ) ... Hitting in training and shooting in a match is really not the same thing.
Instinct and sensations therefore play a key role once the weekend arrives ...
I would say that instinct in any case makes it possible to resolve different situations. Because not all goalkeepers behave in the same way ...
I am a lover of philosophy, it helps me
What if you had to choose between instinct and confidence this time?
Trust ! Because that's the key. The key is to not be afraid to do exactly the same as what you would train or playstation on match day.
Is it working?
Hmm ( he searches for his words ) ... What you have to understand is that confidence depends on performance ... If you perform, your confidence increases. Otherwise, off the pitch, you can sort of work on it. Because everything we talk about depends on your state of mind, on believing in yourself and knowing what external opinions matter to you.

You also have a well-kept secret about face-to-facemeetings ...
Yes, that's right. Beyond the classic things that matter a lot to me like having a lot of talking with my loved ones, I am a lover of philosophy. It helps me.
Ah yes?
I read a lot and yes because it is the subject, I love the Stoics (( Editor's note: one of the virtues sought by the Stoic is impassive, calm ..) It's the ones that I prefer
Returning down to more down to earth things. Beyond philosophy, do you spend a lot of time studying opposing goalkeepers?
Not really much time, no. I study a little bit the defense of adversaries in a global way, of course. And I always receive a few brief explanations about the opposing goalkeeper, but nothing more.
Growing up in Sweden and watching him dominate Europe made me watch Zlatan.
Do you not find this useful?
At this level, you already know more or less the guys you are going to face. But maybe I should do this (watch videos) more, yes.
Did you set a target at the start of the season? Some scorers have told us that this is what made them move forward ...
My only goal was to progress, to improve in all areas. And, above all, to help the team achieve its objectives. I'm more into the slightly more general idea of creating points for the team. I didn't set myself a goal because I'm not one to set limits. I try to perform as best as possible by telling myself that the rest will come naturally.
Do you have models for clinical scorers? Idols?
The fact that I grew up in Sweden and saw him dominate Europe prompted me to observe Zlatan (Ibrahimovic). But if it were necessary to bring out two in particular I would say ... (Didier) Drogba and (Thierry) Henry.
