Eritreans in the diaspora and inside the country have so far contributed 251.2 million Nakfa towards fighting COVID-19 from spreading in the country. This was achieved in a span of 6 weeks, in dollar terms this is nearly a whopping $17 million. This number does not even include the material help extended by society members to needy families who can't fend for themselves. It does not also take to account the efforts and work of the large volunteer force engaged across the country. This monetary assistance, however, will go a long way in assisting Eritrea's Ministry of Health in the exceedingly challenging work that it is engaged in. According to Minister Yemane Gebremeskel, "the task of detailed and comprehensive assessment to gauge the spread of pandemic in the entire country with full certainty is barely on the offing". He goes on to add, "the total number of quarantined individuals exceeds 3000". The quarantined include "nationals who returned home in past two months through air, land & sea travel & immediate contacts where necessary". Although there is good news in regards to the patients that have recovered from COVID-19 infection, we are not out of the woods yet, there is a possibility that tough times may be ahead and we should remain engaged in assisting with whatever we can.
