Tigray is the first settlement of Jews who came to Ethiopia as a result of the relationship between Queen Saba of Ethiopia and King Solomon of Israel. King Solomon wanted to rule Ethiopia through his son, Menelik. Menelik's Mother, Queen Saba was very power and exapnded her kingdom to Yemen and Arabian Peninsula.

Aksum Tsion is the local name given by Tigrayans showing the historical connection between Aksum and the ancient city of Tsion.
