The name Eritrea is derived from the ancient Greek name for the Red Sea (Ἐρυθρὰ Θάλασσα Erythra Thalassa, based on the adjective ἐρυθρός erythros "red"). It was first formally adopted in 1890, with the formation of Italian Eritrea (Colonia Eritrea). The name persisted over the course of subsequent British and Ethiopian occupation, and was reaffirmed by the 1993 independence referendum and 1997 constitution.

Originally, according to Eritrean Tigrinya oral traditional history, there were four clans living in the Asmera area on the Kebessa Plateau: the Gheza Gurtom, the Gheza Shelele, the Gheza Serenser and Gheza Asmae. These towns were frequently attacked by clans from the low land and from the rulers of "seger mereb melash" (which now is a Tigray region in Ethiopia), until the women of each clan decided that to defeat their common enemy and preserve peace the four clans must unite. The men accepted, hence the name "Arbate Asmera". Arbate Asmera literally means, in the Tigrinya language, "the four (feminine plural) made them unite". Eventually Arbate was dropped and it has been called Asmera which means "they [feminine, thus referring to the women] made them unite". There is still a district called Arbaete Asmera in the Administrations of Asmara. It is now called the Italianized version of the word Asmara. The westernized version of the name is used by a majority of non-Eritreans, while the multilingual inhabitants of Eritrea and neighboring peoples remain loyal to the original pronunciation, Asmera.

Tigray does not need Tekan Geza but our Bahri Tigray and no one will stop us except wisy-washy coward leadership of woyane.

Forget the old 120 years Enda Didiee buildings, it is not our nor your but the enemy Taliyan but the land and Sea is ours and Tigray secured you and Tigray will take it from your hand next. Do not worry we know each other, there is nothing hidden in our history but what is hidden for Tigray is one the Agame people who were the most victim of the Bologna maids 20K people became homeless over night and Zalambessa virtually demolished and taken every roof the entire city yet they are sleeping like nothing happened instead of leading us and go after them. The Adwans are nothing but the cameles of Banda diqala Sebhat Nega and the Dembian Meles than being Tigrayan.

Mesel zeybilu,

I don’t really have much to argue with what you wrote but the 1997 constitution. What constitution are you taking about?
Is that the one that kept the old Shabo in power forever. Albeit passing it down to his son?

Molfat Sebeyti, there is no Eritrea nor Tigrigna ethnic, it is Tigray national language and find your ethnic and your language and culture. Stop using our things, do your own and stop distorting our language by twisting, that is not the way our founder want us to use their language.

Your Arab tanks and guns did not deter us let alone your photshop and paste. The reality is when both side walk the hard walk through the trench the way you saw it last time.
