Ethiopia should respond to Egyptian distortion with light speed
Ethipians foreign ministry need to stop sleeping at the wheel. Egypt started to distort facts about Ethipia's intention to pressure Ethiopia to it's dictate, one has to give the devil his due by now Melese would have cut this buffons down to size. These born Layers would lie through their teeth if one let them. Ethopia need to respond swiftly and with language they understand.

Ask and ye shall receive.

There is a greater urgency now to involve AU and distance away from the US arrangement as soon as possible. Let's see if Egypt is as comfortable turning away African mediation for African problems.

UN is the biggest USA embassy, in disguise.
Sad, but there is no way out from where Ethiopia is at when it comes to the dam.
Remember why Eritrea was dragged 2 decades backwards because of USA policy.
I am saddened to say that the ethiopians specially the agames who were cheering for Eritrea's destructions through USA double standard foreign policy, now understand what an uphill battle the Eritrean govt was facing during the shifta woyane.
Injustice to one is injustice to all.
I hope an agreement all parties agree upon comes out of this.
If push comes to shove, always the USA will side with Egypt than with Ethiopia. The lifting of the USA, Sudan's sanction has also something to do with it.

After all, we may not need to call the devil to cut Egypt to size, Gedu and Shimiless are doing quite a job at that. Now Ethiopia should call an emergency meeting to explain to OAU members the belligerent and untrusty nature of Egypt and amass a diplomatic back up to challenge the Trump attempt to put undue pressure on Ethiopia. But come hell or highwater Ethiopia should assert it's an inalienable right to its resources as long as it operates according to the international law of cross-border river utilization. Egypt's chest tumping is not going to take it anywhere.
one understands cirgar's concern: as they say once bitten twice shy. Ethiopia has much more leverage to assert its interest without going belligerent as long as Ethiopia plays its cards well. It is doing just that. Kudos to Gedu and Shimiless and the boss Abiy.

I'm all for non belligerence. It was the right thing for us to accept the process to involve the US at the start.
Regardless of what one thinks of Trump or the obvious conflict of interest the US has. You want a party that has the ability to introduce solutions that neither side can produce on their own. Actually it could have played out fairly well for everyone involved had Egypt and the US not went the route they did.
The US is the only one with the deep pockets that could have financed desalination plants in Egypt and reforestation efforts in Ethiopia. That would ensure Egypt can withstand a quicker filling period and more trees that result in increased rainfall on our end means it would be easier for us to accept agreements involving the release of set levels of water per year.
Instead, the US is seeing this as a quick way to bolster Trumps election chances so he can say he brokered the two sides into agreement. And the boneheaded way they chose to go about that is to pick which one of the two sides to bully into signing. Probably because the alternative involves months of deliberations and working out complex details on both sides which Trump will have no patience for.
Unfortunately for them that's going nowhere. And maybe there is still a way to turn this process around but I'm not hoping for much anymore. So in my view, the best course of action now is to stress the need for AU and South Africa as it's current chair to come in and shepherd this thing. Till then we will finish this dam and fill it on our own timetable and it's on them to figure out what to do about that.
And you can play nice with this wandering pest if you like. I'm just not equipped with such patience.
