how many know that all tigray including mekele and axum were occupied by italy until ethiopians came and liberated them? many don't know that the adwa war started in ashenge southern tigray. ethiopians from all over the country came under minilik II and started freeing the ungrateful filthy tigray from ashenge southern tigray, to mekele, axum and lastly adwa. in fact taitu, the wife of minilik was the one who liberated mekele and there is a well named ማይ እንስቲ in mekele in memory of her.

the army of alula and ras mengesha yohannes which had only 6000 rifles was defeated easily by the italians at the battle of coatit and had to retreat to southern tigray. italy by that time had occupied almost all of tigray including adwa, mekele, axum etc. alula and ras mengesha eagerly waited until the ethiopian army arrived in southern tigray in ashenge. the ethiopian army had modern 32 guns and over 65,000 rifles. the operation to free tigray from the occupation started at ambalage, southern tigray. ethiopians freed ungrateful agames from the occupying army starting from southern tigray, mekele, axum and adwa.
