Hostage crises and elections

After watching this and other media coverages - coverages with different angles - on the hostage situation, I kept thinking about the hostage crisis during Regan. Read several books but not sure if we ever found conclusive evidence tying Regan’s team to any deals with Iran rulers to delay the hostage release until after the election. Poor Carter never recovered his lost popularity due to inability to secure the release of the hostages. The rest is history.
Is Abiy or his foreign handlers trying to time the hostage release to get a higher approval and vote? This sounds conspiracy even to me but power makes politicians do things unthinkable to us common folks.
Thank you to these caring reporters for keeping the pressure
