Emperor Menelik has made some mistakes but this were tactical mistakes.
Menelik defeated Italy in 1896 at Adwa, North Ethiopia.
Both Yohannes and Menelik were collaborating with foreign powers to maintain their power. But noe served the interests of Europe.

Emperor Menelik is the only leader in the world that marched 500 miles on horse back to face his enemy.
