06 Feb 2020 - (EP) Dictator Isaias Afwerki will give a rare interview to government-owned media tomorrow at 8:00 pm local time on 'projected' public development programmes in the country for this year and other issues of 'importance' to the domestic audience.
The President-For-Life is also expected to lecture the nation about a regional and international issue on the first hour period of the interview.
What is not expected to be asked on the preprepared questions:
1. Update on Constitution
2. Accountability
2. The presence of a foreign military base in Assab
3. The 'planned' Ethiopian navy base in Massawa
4. The fate of political prisoners
5. The role of his son Abraha Isaias Afwerki (Abrahaley)
For more than two decades, the 74 years old President used the absence of peace with Ethiopia to justify authoritarianism without any rule of law and manipulate the population by cultivating common fears that unite them, under the guise of national security.
This has catalysed some popular mobilisation, primarily among those who live far from Isaias's oppression: the diaspora. While those living in Eritrea are gravely threatened by the deteriorating socio-economic and political situation within the country, the diaspora-based supporters of the regime are more concerned with Ethiopia's threat to Eritrean sovereignty.
However, since the 2018 peace agreement with Ethiopia, Friends and supporters, including Eritrean Press, called for more democratic systems of accountability. However, the once 'loved and worshipped' president (pictured) turned super dictator and refused to call repeatedly for democratic reform and boycotting cabinet ministers meeting while ‘grooming’ his son as his heir.
Although there are numerous so-called opposition parties outside Eritrea (they are worse than the dictator himself), they have all repeatedly failed because of their own selfishness, weaknesses and disunity, born as much of personal rivalries as from ideological debates.
As Isaias denied the opposition a political space within Eritrea, the Woyane Chifra - Eritrea's sworn enemy - funded opposition parties have remained outside the country for good and have been unable to catalyse any structural change within the country.
The two-hour-long interview, if you are interested, will be broadcasted live on Eri-Tv and Dimtsi Hafash radio station.
