It is true Ethiopia could have been a middle income country in 2025. this a work of a genius. Meles Zenawi deserves much respect for this. Unfortunately, the new leaders, who made a silent are destroying the economy. the economy in Ethiopia has been stagnant and deteriorating due unrest and the new government policy, which has cut many mega projects. Ethiopia needs to build more university while improving the quality of education at all levels beginning in the kindergarten. Thanks be to TPLF-EPRDF, Ethiopia has managed build the foundations of modern society. We need to continue building roads and rail networks. Modernising the agriculture is vital.

The new group which took power 2 years ago should be deposed and a new patriotic and nationalist group should take over the government.

A GDP mesures only the output of an economy. In other words, it only measures the total value of final goods and services produced within a given country's borders, and nothing else. A GDP does not measure the development of a country, or the well-being of its people! A country can achieve a phenomenal GDP Growth Rate and can sill be poor - and Ethiopia is the epitome of this category!

It's rather the Human Development Index (HDI), which is a statistical tool, which measures a country's overall achievement in its social and economic dimensions. The social and economic dimensions of a country are based on the health of people, their level of education attainment and their standard of living.

Now let's compare Ethiopia and Eritrea in the Human Development Index, and see where each country positions in the world ranking - in 2019:

Ethiopia is ranked 173rd out of 189 countries
Eritrea is ranked 182nd out of 189 countries

Somalia has not been ranked in the HDI for a large number of years due to the protracted infamous situation of the country, which does not allow to collect, collate, and compile reliable data.

Guess what - Djibouti ranks higher than Ethiopia, and it positions itself at 172nd out of 189 countries!


How can a country (Ethiopia) that tops the world table at an astonishing 93% of households without a decent toilet (and defecating in the open), leaving children vulnerable to diarrhoea and intestinal infections, boast to others!
