Minister of Transport, Dagmawit Moges, held talks with Sudanese Undersecretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure, Omar Ahmed Mohammed and Director General of Sudanese Sea Ports Corporation, Captain Onour Mussa, on issues of port service and utilization.

Accordingly, Sea Port Corporation of Sudan will provide all the necessary support for Ethiopia to use the Ports of Sudan for its import-export commodities.

Moreover, the corporation will offer back-office for Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Service Enterprise in order to facilitate the import of fertilizer which is expected to be delivered shortly.

The two parties also agreed to establish a technical committee to smooth the progress of the port service, it was indicated.

The agreement includes implementing the 2003 pledge by the government of Sudan to offer 875,000 square meter area of land close to Port Sudan for Ethiopian logistics service.

Sudan is to far away from Ethiopia

the natural port for Ethiopia is Djibouti and massawa only ..even Assab port is only Amhara have romantic value otherwise it is not practical port..

now even so Sudan is far way they come up with sweetener giving us 875,000 square meter area of land close to Port Sudan for Ethiopian logistics service. if we add electric train in to the mix we will have winning combination why because if we shipping coffee to America even Sudan is far away from Ethiopia we r going northbound by train this means the more we go northbound we r near to America then shipping it thru Djibouti port

Djibouti port will be practical if we ship coffee to China or Japan ..

now if u understand the logistic

inter-Africa trade possible if we use Kenyan port and Somalian port to ship to China .. Djibouti port to ship to Arab countries like this all port around as can be useful according to where we ship our export goods...

beside that we use our hydro to run all Eastern block Africa train , from Rwanda to Egypt all train run by Ethiopian hydro so make it cheaper of us to ship goods on train then ship...even half way

ethoash,

but what about the parts of ethiopia that border sudan? for example, some of my oromo family lives in the western part of ethiopia/oromia, where they used to trade with sudan for years, even during the time of menelik and before him.
plus, our enemies may try to use our lack of a port or ports, to block us off from the sea. so it's best we use multiple ports, from djibouti to somali-land, and sudan and others; adelem ende?

i did, but perhaps did not respond to that part. but i get your point.
i think sudan will sweeten the deal for us, we both also do not like how egypt wants to bully us on the nile waters.
this was the policy of bashir, not too sure about this new government in sudan.

this is good to be truth deal we should have taken the deal while Bahir was in power... now the deal might not hold

so if u worry next time the next government will cancel our deal what u should do is signed the deal under international trade deal this means not Sudan law or Ethiopia law govern the deal it would be 3rd party
