Word of the Day: Obsequious

I heard the word for the first time yesterday (December 22, 2019) on TV when it was used by Nancy French of the Washington Post, who was a guest on the TV. I do not recall coming across this word before yesterday.

So, I looked up its definition in the dictionary. It means obedient or attentive to an excessive or servile degree.

Then, I noticed that it is from Latin obsequiousus, from obsequium (compliancy,) from obsequi (follow, comply with.)

Then I started to wonder about obsu, obse, obsika (ኦብሱ, ትዕግስት in Amharic.)

I have in the past encountered forum participants who reject such similarities outright. I wonder what they said when they recently heard the expression "we are all Ethiopians."

ቤካን ዹጋ ፉዸተ። ወላላን ዹጋ ፉዸቹ ድደ።

ኣዋቂ እዉነት ተቀባይ ነዉ። ኣለኣዋቂ እዉነትን ኣልቀበልም ባይ ነዉ።

The wise accepts the truth. The unwise rejects accepting the truth.

Tuma,
Now you must be convinced that Oromos has reasons to use Latin Alphabet to write and read Afan Oromo and to reject any impose Alphabet which doesn’t suit for their language and to the modern technology.
Thank you for your obsequious service and servile manner.
