We can’t believe this situation, birr has been losing its power every year. What is behind all this? Ethiopian are suffering more than Ethiopian overseas. More or less diaspora Ethiopian are more advantaged. Imported goods for Ethiopian who reside in the country are unbearably too expensive. To show this we can take one simple example. 2000 year model Vitz in Ethiopia costs around 600k birr. But Ethiopian in diaspora needs only needs 20k dollar. We know that it is not difficult to obtain 2ok in foriegn lands, esp in US. But 600k birr is too much to obtain easily in Ethiopia. This is not fair.
To remind you, in the Derg regime, Toyota car costed around 60k birr. But nowadays the same car costs around 300k-500k birr .
It is also unclear why Eritrea’s money, Nakfa has strong power compared to birr. How is that happened? Does world bank accepted Eritrea’s self adjustment policy?
We may forced ot ask: who are responsible for adjusting birr exchange rate? Is it World Bank or National bank of Ethiopia?
Any way, our government should do something to obviate this unjust discriminatory move.
