Much respect for the Agazian General, as Zileki Mengedi probably wishes to call him.

I heard the name Alula when I was a child in a countryside village, far from Tigray. It was the name of one of the sons of a brother of the late Laureate Tsegaye Ghebremedhin, who was a farmer in the village. The name was not common in the area.

After I grew older, I remember hearing it in the speeches of Colonel Menghistu.

When I watched the above video, I heard accusations by Mola Tedla that the general's name was not given enough credit by Ethiopia's past governments. Then I opened my brain for any objective data to come from Mola Tedla that supports his accusation on this particular issue, to no avail. Then I asked myself if he can go to the library, sample the colonel's speeches over the years, and bring us objective data that supports his claim. I am open-minded to hear it. That is what a ምሁር does. While at it, can he also do some comparative analysis of the frequency with which Menghistu Hailemariam and the late Meles Zenawi spoke about Ras Alula Aba Nega in their expressed views over the years. Objectivity demands that if you want to make your accusation on this particular issue credible.

That said, the general's story explains Zileki Mengedi's Tigraway nationalism. He was the only Tigraway that I remember who advocated in this forum for mending the split in the TPLF. That was when he was showing us his map that went all the way to Benishangul as if to say የጆቴ ወርቅ ነሃስ ኣይሁን። I did not make sense of that map until I watched this video and heard that the Agazian General had actually fought against King Teklehaimanot in Gojjam and won. If I remember correctly, when Abay Woldu became a new leader, he put his hope on him for his Agazi nation. Then it appeared that he gave up on him and longed for Dr. Debretsion to be the new visionary leader and started to ask for help from the elders near Mereb River, on both sides of it. Then የኣጼ ሃይለስላሴ ደፋር went to Bahir Dar shunning Dr. Debretsion, which appeared to disappoint Zileki Menedi. Then, when it was rumored that የኣጼ ሃይለስላሴ ደፋር wishes to visit Mekelle someday, he took some rest as if to say he might have finally got a new leader for his Agazi nation in Geezland. He came back from his rest after the rumor passed. Now, he is digging into history and bringing out the Agazian General.
