I Yearn for a Noble Soul
Yoftahe Negussie
I yearn for a noble soul, whither oh noble soul?
Mister blackmailer, for legions the leader
till when'll the child remain Asmodeus's master
mister 'the world by me,' Sataniel's ruler
who'd host the wolf as guest
chooser of wolf o'er sheep to bestow with honor
who'd chase the sheep away, sheep's wool as his cover
invader of his land upon the wolf's decree
sower of thornbush on fertile farmland
lover of his father, with inordinate care
and loving his father, a [deleted] to his mother
having pimped his mother, his own father's jailer
with father in jail, who'd plot on his mother
having plotted on mom who'd blurt a new decree?
When the one on the left has returned to the right
I, your dear mother, undeterred by the trek
yearn for a decent soul who'd look upon you then.
Yoftahe Negussie
Yoftahe Negussie (1894-1947) was born in Muzaelias in the province of Gojam, Ethiopia. He wrote numerous plays, including Misikir, Musho Bekentu, Alem Atalay, Eyayu Mazen, Arbete Tsehay, and Negusu ena Zewdu. Critics writing about Ethiopian drama contend that Negussie's plays celebrated Emperor Haile Selassie, along with Ethiopian history and the Ethiopian Church.
