ጎልዓ village is located just north east of Adigrat.
In 1837, the first ever modern school in Ethiopia and in Africa was built there. One later, another school was built in the town of Alitena, north of Adigrat.
The first ever modern school outside of Tigrai in Ethiopia was built by ሓፋው Minilik in his name, " Dagmawi Minilik school" in 1905 in Addis Ababa, 70 whole years after Gol'A!!
