In order to believe such news, I will glue to EriTv or shabait or hear what our patriot ambassador in tokio, japan has to say and update me.

Hopefully, as the smart activist put it, they won't tell me that 5 african players have abandoned their team and ran away citing the lambadusa, italy tragedy.

It's not that one is happy at the defection news. Actually, it's sad. Disseminating news of the defections is not about happy or sad. It's about the underlying cause that's the issue. This sporting common occurrence is an expression of deep ailment of the system in place.

The underlying message to this brouhaha is simply so we can construe their action as a statement toward the Eritrean government. And the last time we checked, our own history tells us that when napalm bombs were raining on Eritreans, the 'concerned' quarters, who have a 'soft spot' for us these days, have nowhere to be found!

When Eritrean players defection is more newsworthy than, for instance the daily ethnic killings and internal displacement of millions in most African countries or migrants who perish trying to reach failed states like Yemen, it ceases to be a statement of fact and becomes a statement of value.
