As it stand. the green, yellow and red flag is a flag of Ethiopian orthodox church, ABN, Ginbot 7 and Amhara activists. . It is not Ethiopian flag. The more this group insist it is Ethiopian flag the less acceptable the flag is as it becomes more of a political symbol. Besides given the history of the orthodox church's alliance with the past kings, it is better for them to have a low profile. Using the green, yellow and red flag can be used as the symbol to represent the group, but should stop claiming it is Ethiopian flag.
At the same time different rulers from past to present have modified the flag to fit their time, including the current rulers, without modifying the base color of green yellow and red.
The other issue the come to light is that more Ethiopians are followers of non orthodox religion. So to think the green yellow and red as Ethiopian flag will undermine the peaceful coexistence.
Is it right to claim the green yellow and red is an Ethiopian flag overriding the current Ethiopian flag with a star in the middle?

No one said anything about this flag when used in Bahirdar (probably the longest flag ever). So it should remain the same everywhere. Users should be able to use the flag as their symbol, but not as ethiopian flag.
