There is ample historical evidence that Amhara were slaves of Tigrayans. Some of them were serving as soldiers to Tigrayan feudal lords. Amharas were not part of the Aksumite ruling line as they have different tongue than Aksumites of Tigray region. The Amhara call them selves "Amara" because they do not have the gutteral way of pronouncing words.
Tigrayans are Aksumites as are Italians from Roman Empire. Some say Tigray colonised Amhara. But this is non-sense as the Amhara would have spoken Tigrigna. Tigrayans were very cruel rulers and the Amhara are still afraid of Tigrayans. Some reports show the Amhara are from West Africa. Some in Camerun speak Amharic and call Ethiopia their home land. Some Congo tribes call them selves Amara and speak similar language to Amharic. There is a tribe called Amaro in Mali.
Evidence show the Amhara were either enslaved or serves as soldiers in the ethiopian army from Aksum.
