1. The British Empire had instructed all its dominions, provinces, governors...not to sign any agreement with any tribal chief, sultan, king, emperor anywhere if that local chief condones, benefits, controls slave trade or slave system. Thus The representative of the British Empire for Ethiopia had to wait for lower ranked officer to sign ageement with Emperor Menelik. Lower ranked Asraleqa, until Metoaleqa was allowed to sign.

2. Ethiopia was prevented from being member of the league of nations, until Empress Zewditu made declaration and ordered some regional governors to put effort to eliminate slavery and slave trade. The highest concentration of slave trade in Ethiopia was Shiwa and Jima sultanates/kingdoms.
