Is it true foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Eritrea!
Is it true foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Eritrea!
Is it also true that buying property is not known in Eritrea, and that neither Eritreans are allowed to buy property in Eritrea and the only way for them to "own" property in the country is to lease!
Any idea!

Somali brother,
this is what I found. Personally, I don't know much about it, since I haven't tried buying any property yet.
Hope it helps.
How it is for foreigners, I have no idea.

Re: Is it true foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Eritrea!
Thanks a lot bro!
You're right, the best way is to ring an Eritrean Embassy near me. And I will.
I've been attracted to Eritrea for some time! Needless to mention I've also always been in good terms with brotherly Eritreans and find them decent people!

The prices look a bit costly but reasonable than that of Addis. Here in Addis it's much more expensive.Zmeselo wrote: ↑31 Jul 2019, 21:36Somali brother,

Re: Is it true foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Eritrea!
They say, "ognuno ha il suo momento di gloria" (which could be equivalent, in English, to, "every dog has his day")! I believe Eritrea's one is on its way and it's just a matter of time before we witness both Eritreans and foreigners flocking to Eritrea!
Re: Is it true foreigners are not allowed to buy property in Eritrea!
Zmeselo,
Brother, I've just rang my nearest Eritrean Embassy. The receptionist has said, I paraphrase her, that the right person to answer this question was in a meeting. However, when I said that I saw on the internet that neither foreigners nor Eritrean nationals are allowed to buy property in Eritrea, she agreed and said "the land belongs to the government".
Guys, don't jump in and claim that Issaias and his government own the country! When the receptionist said "the land belongs to the government", she simply meant that the land was a public domain that legally belonged to the citizenry; thus could not be sold! What a pity!

I know, it's complicated.
I'm a novice myself concerning this issue specifically, to be honest.
If I'm to guess, a lot can have to do with the size of the country & the complicated history it went through to officially be declared a State, might've created in the people in general & the Front in particular, a heavy sense of protectionism woven into every policy decision.

There's quite a few countries around the world where foreigners are not allowed to buy land or property. But I don't know any country where its nationals are not allowed to do so. However, I can understand the position and situation of Eritrea in this regard. Yep, I believe the points you've highlighted have also crucial role in this policy.

Somaliman,
Are you planning on buying properties confiscated from the Catholic church? You never know when the tyrants are going to snatch it out of your hands.
