Pagan Horus is a useless Oromuma, or he would soon be an Oromo. Like you said, it's easier for his likes to transition easily. I don't regret losing him. Devotes all his time admiring the fountains of Piasa and glitters of the street lights of Addis Corridor.
He abandoned the Gurage Region demand. He used to support and campaign for the cause. Not any more. He has devoted 100% his time for supporting Abiy Ahmed Cluster.
All or most of the Gurage leaders who lead the struggle for Gurage Region that he supported so vigorously have been languishing in jail for over a year. He abandoned them. He doesn't speak for their release. Not a word.
To know more about Gurage, not only when your field is science, engineering and technology, even when you were trained in the Arts and Social Sciences, reading books on Gurage language and history helps. North America libraries have tons of books on Gurage. Some are available on Amazon. Nowadays, you don't have to step out of your residence. Al resources are on the internet . Free. You just have to have interest and time.
Gurage has shrank to 1/3 of its former size in my estimation. The 2/3 of regions of Gurage were Gelila, an immediate northwest of Gurage and Gafat, north of Gelila upto the banks of Abbay River. The last speaker of Gafat language died in 1940s. Gafat was a thriving Gurage community speaking and writing its own language when James Bruce, the discoverer of the source of the Blue Nile, visited it in 1769? from Gondar. According Prof. Wolf Leslau, a specialist on Ethiosemitics who wrote 3 volumes on Gurage dialects, interviewed the last surviving Gafat man and documented the Gafat words and grammar. This will allow the revival of the language, just like the languages of the aborigines in North America, Canada and USA, that were documented and preserved are now revived and being taught to children to learn to speak and write them.

Hi thanks for taking your time for this conversation!
I know a little bit about Prof. Wolf Leslau but was not motivated to read it bs you know those foreigners used to write in stereotypical way. I will check it. Let’s see if you can drop names of readings by foreigners who wrote about that region.
Obviously the history of almost all ethnics in the country is shady-not much written information exists except by foreigners.
As to gurage, there is a big problem of uniting as mentioned. Sebat-bet usually can understand each other. I am not sure about other regions but Horus was kind of mentioning there is much in common in what they speak.
When they were asking to be kilil, they were doing well except Oromuma interference. I know many are in prison by now. I also believe Gurage should not sit ideal but use all opportunity to be able to remain in one adminstration without going to Hosana which is an insult to gurage. Gurage trying to retain its culture and identity doesn’t go against Ethiopian national interest or national unity. Gurage will remain proud Ethiopian. I hope you know መስመስ. I don’t know which area of gurage they are, they lost their language and officially extinct.

The best way of studying Gurage history and language that has worked for me is start with a book, and follow the references in the book you read. You choose the book(s) given in the refence depending on your interest. Most of the authors on Gurage are in the link below.
Include these 3 Gurage linguists:
Teglu Giza Nisrane, Linguist @ Welkite University
Degif Petros Banksira, Linguist @ MIT, USA and University of Quebec, Canada
Fekede Menuta, Linguist @ Hawasa University

Professor Wolf Leslau, in his study of Gurage dialects concluded that the dialects are parts of an earlier existing parent Gurage language, which he called Proto-Gurage. He collected words, grammar from each dialect to conclude that the dialects have an organic unity. Dialects, he argued, do not necessarily have to be intelligible to one another to be offsprings of one language. He believes the dialects split from the parent language and formed the varieties.
He was a Polish German Jew who fled to France to avoid compulsory military service in WWII.
His student and opposite to his conclusion on the unity of Gurage dialects is Robert Hetzron, a Jew from Hungary, on a simplistic theory which states that two dialect that are not intelligible to each other have become two different languages. Those who wish to divide Gurage into disparate pocket-size communities of differences and disunity use his unscientific and unusual conclusion. Some gossips exist that he was not a mentally stable person.
"Language Death in Mesmes" by Ahland, Michael Bryan, an MSc thesis published as a book, $50 on Amazon. Mesmes were the founding members of Sebatbet Gurage, now absorbed by Hadiya and Endegany.
Authors on Gurage history
Prof.Richard Pankhurst
Prof. Bahru Zewde
Dr. Getahun Lapiso Delebo
and many in Amharic by Gurages
Enjoy the books!
