Like someone mentioned to put my two sense, The weyanes had no idea or wish of suicide. I believe they were drunken of their war prowess and achievement during the Derg era although Shaebia and epdm did all the heavy lifting. They also believe during the 1998-2000 border war although took too many soldiers lives who are predominantly Amharas and oromos, they managed to push Eritrean army out of Badme and push in to vast Eritrean low land Gash Barka being on the helm conducting the war. These events and having all the heavy armament of the Ethiopian army within their reach like the one they took from hawasa after the inauguration of prime minister of Abiy the rocket propeller"SMERCH" tornado in English gave them the false hope that they could reach all Ethiopian cities and including Eritrean during the war.so they could have brought these governments in to their knees to negotiation in order to minimize civilian casualties and distruction of their cities and thus bargain to share power or even take dominant seats.
