I believe Ethiopia's intention is to deter Egypt, even though that I also believe that egypt will always be superior to Ethiopia's army.
So it is just a waste of money and definitely to enrich France and the USA.
Isn't it obvious that France doesn't give a [deleted] about whose side it is when it is supplying weapons to both of them. It is looking for its interests.
And if push comes to shove the USA will side with Egypt and supply egypt with much better armaments.
What Ethiopia needs to do is talk with Egypt and come to agreements on how all concerned parties come to agreements.
War is not the solution.
Eritrea has been dragged because of the unnecessary wars and should be an example to both Ethiopia and Egypt.
Saying that, it is much easier for Eritrea to purchase be it sophisticated and letal military armanents or other economically beneficial endeavours for the fact that is has much, much, much less mouths to feed and it won't affect its citizens lifestyle, considering the cash flow it will get soon from it's natural resources.
It doesn't even have to wait to purchase such things. Its resources is like money in the bank and can borrow against it as we speak.

So, Eritrea repurchasing better equipments will have duel purposes.
First for deterrence in case Ethiopia gets dumb [deleted] leaders after PMAA and secondly, Eritrea can side with Ethiopia if ethiopia goes to war (God forbid) with Egypt.
As far as Eritrea, as we speak has not enemy country in the region except the least important kilil of Ethiopia (tigray) which can be beaten with sticks.

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this news yesterday was: Egypt.
Eritrea allegedly is taking on part of the 4 billion debt which means they will get some nice weapons too.
Egypt most likely already has troops in south sudan and will stage any military attack from there, most likely.
Egypt has the advantage in quality of armaments but that alone does not guarantee victory.
High morale. Tactics and strategy. Manpower. Training. Knowledge of the terrain and many more factors are to be considered in war.
Like it or not, Egypt tried twice at gura and gundet (ironically enough, these places are in Eritrea), and lost... Horribly. It was a massacre

First of all, it's obvious you hate anything Ethiopia because your beloved TPLF, who you thought would rule until the return of Jesus (peace be upon him), has been made irrelevant and lost their power.
When tplf was in power you were telling everyone to fight for tplf led ethiopia if Egypt attacked.
And you were insulting anyone if they accepted in idea, the support of Egypt be it militarily or financially.
Now that oromos are free and no longer 2nd class citizens, why shouldn't they take a leading role in defending Ethiopia our common home?

Egypt knows Ethiopia's intentions on such long distance armaments purchase and these armaments are not to come even with in a year or two.
