Re: Ethiopia seeks to purchase $4B worth of military equipment from France (inc. 6k range missiles with nuclear warheads
I believe Ethiopia's intention is to deter Egypt, even though that I also believe that egypt will always be superior to Ethiopia's army.
So it is just a waste of money and definitely to enrich France and the USA.
Isn't it obvious that France doesn't give a [deleted] about whose side it is when it is supplying weapons to both of them. It is looking for its interests.
And if push comes to shove the USA will side with Egypt and supply egypt with much better armaments.
What Ethiopia needs to do is talk with Egypt and come to agreements on how all concerned parties come to agreements.
War is not the solution.
Eritrea has been dragged because of the unnecessary wars and should be an example to both Ethiopia and Egypt.
Saying that, it is much easier for Eritrea to purchase be it sophisticated and letal military armanents or other economically beneficial endeavours for the fact that is has much, much, much less mouths to feed and it won't affect its citizens lifestyle, considering the cash flow it will get soon from it's natural resources.
It doesn't even have to wait to purchase such things. Its resources is like money in the bank and can borrow against it as we speak.
So, yes like my brother Zmeselo said, even though Ethiopia and Eritrea are at peace and pledged that they will help each other in all areas, Eritrea's territory is still under Ethiopia which is very worrisome that the ethio govt so far didn't materialize its promises.
So, Eritrea repurchasing better equipments will have duel purposes.
First for deterrence in case Ethiopia gets dumb [deleted] leaders after PMAA and secondly, Eritrea can side with Ethiopia if ethiopia goes to war (God forbid) with Egypt.
As far as Eritrea, as we speak has not enemy country in the region except the least important kilil of Ethiopia (tigray) which can be beaten with sticks.
So, it is not Eritrea's business to tell Ethiopia to not get in to more dept, but the dept it is amassing is going to make its population life miserable while Eritrea's population won't be affected even if Eritrea buys double of what Ethiopia is buying.
Eritrea's peace and strength has more benefit to Ethiopia than the other way arround.

Re: Ethiopia seeks to purchase $4B worth of military equipment from France (inc. 6k range missiles with nuclear warheads
The first thing that came to mind when I saw this news yesterday was: Egypt.
Eritrea allegedly is taking on part of the 4 billion debt which means they will get some nice weapons too.
Egypt most likely already has troops in south sudan and will stage any military attack from there, most likely.
Egypt has the advantage in quality of armaments but that alone does not guarantee victory.
High morale. Tactics and strategy. Manpower. Training. Knowledge of the terrain and many more factors are to be considered in war.
Like it or not, Egypt tried twice at gura and gundet (ironically enough, these places are in Eritrea), and lost... Horribly. It was a massacre
Very few Egyptians made it back home alive.
And Egypt had better arms and european advisors.

Agame ash,
First of all, it's obvious you hate anything Ethiopia because your beloved TPLF, who you thought would rule until the return of Jesus (peace be upon him), has been made irrelevant and lost their power.
When tplf was in power you were telling everyone to fight for tplf led ethiopia if Egypt attacked.
And you were insulting anyone if they accepted in idea, the support of Egypt be it militarily or financially.
Now that oromos are free and no longer 2nd class citizens, why shouldn't they take a leading role in defending Ethiopia our common home?
The didessa in oromia is a major tributary to the blue nile as well. We're connected very intimately to this issue and cannot ignore it.
Agames can cause they are far up north where no one cares or even considers them
But oromos are in the center. We are the backbone of Ethiopia. We cannot turn our backs now.

Oh one more thing.
Egypt knows Ethiopia's intentions on such long distance armaments purchase and these armaments are not to come even with in a year or two.
Now, announcing its intention will force Egypt to preemptively destroy the Dam if Ethiopia doesn't sit and negotiate.
In other words even though the Nile originates inside Ethiopia, Ethiopia can not have it both ways.
I mean, what will it do if Egypt says "ok then block the flow of the water, we don't want any of the Nile water pass by our territory". Can ethiopia do so. Heck no! Even if it does in a hundred years by miracle, the water will eventually drown the whole Ethiopia.
So, Egypt allowing the overflow of the Nile water through its territory to the mediterian is a plus for Ethiopia and Egypt. Rivers are mobile (they do not belong to one party) while oceans are stationary and they belong to the countries they sit at.
And thus, they need to come up with solutions both will benefit with out bankrupting their economies and make their citizens lives miserable.
Livers are like locusts.
Now if the locust destroys crops inside none agame territories Ethiopia, I don't think the none agame ethiopians will blame and hold responsible the least important kilil of Ethiopia called tigray.
Such are natural events man has to accept their consquences.

Will France arm, a Nobel Peace Prize winner?
IMBEDDED VIDEO. "Le Point" obtained the (long) shopping list of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, sent to the Elysee: Rifeles, helicopters and nuclear missiles.
By: Lavrilleux Ariane
https://www.lepoint.fr/monde/la-france- ... 906_24.php
17/11/2019
(Software translation)
Two months before being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia sent a letter to "His Excellency" President Emmanuel Macron. On July 22, 2019, Abiy Ahmed asked France to help "strengthen the Ethiopian Air Force" by providing, on credit, a sophisticated arsenal detailed on three pages. This list includes: 12 combat aircraft (including Rafale and Mirage 2000), 18 helicopters and 2 military transport aircraft manufactured by Airbus, 10 Dassault UAVs, electronic jamming systems and, even more surprisingly, about thirty M51 missiles a range of more than 6,000 kilometers ... and nuclear warhead! A demand for the least extravagant (and illegal), knowing that France and Ethiopia have signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty.
For the rest, France has certainly endorsed a new defense partnership in March 2019, but no one expected such a military appetite and formalized so quickly from one of the poorest countries on the planet. If we refer to the sales prices of previous similar contracts, the bill could exceed 4 billion euros *.
Visiting Addis Ababa last spring, Emmanuel Macron's objective was to develop the trade cornered today by China and develop naval forces (which disappeared after the split and independence of Eritrea), writes the journalist of Point Patrick Forestier.
then announced Abiy Ahmed. This cooperation with France is not short-term, it is strategic, it is old and it can go well beyond the naval forces,
Everything is in the "beyond". If the former military prime minister dreams of the same missiles as those of French nuclear submarines, his country has no access to the Red Sea since 1993. As his shopping list suggests, his priority is first to restore the coat of arms of his air force, out of breath and "old of 90 years".
Leader of East Africa ...
Internationally, the leadership of "Abiy" impresses. One year after the peace agreement with the 60-year-old Eritrean foe, the prime minister has emerged as a mediator in Sudan to facilitate the ongoing democratic transition. But in the region, everyone does not look favorably on this geopolitical renaissance.
Egypt, in particular, is worried about the Ethiopian stubbornness to want to fill its future dam ("Renaissance") as soon as possible, without worrying about the dramatic consequences on the flow of the Nile irrigating 90% of the Egyptian fields. In the midst of a diplomatic crisis, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia declared last October:
Since the intervention of a US mediation in early November, tensions have come down a notch, but the dispute is far from resolved. If we are to go to war, we can mobilize millions of people to defend the dam.
Officially, France refuses to get involved in this thorny issue, especially since it has forged a strategic partnership with Egypt Al-Sissi, a major buyer of French arms since 2014. But Rafale with the Ethiopian flag could seize this Franco-Egyptian relationship.
said Tewfik Aclimandos, a professor at Cairo University and connoisseur of the Egyptian staff. The Egyptians would take it badly, because we are more than in competition with the Ethiopians, who did everything to lead to the blocking of the diplomatic way,
In modernizing its aviation,
says Sabine Planel of the Research Institute for Development (IRD).Ethiopia wants to reaffirm its status as a regional power, vis-à-vis its neighbors a little more skeptical, like Kenya and Egypt, or Somalia,
According to the country's expert, these military ambitions are not contradictory to her image as a regional stabilizer, since
... on the brink of internal implosionby equipping itself with a military arsenal, Ethiopia is strengthening its credibility in the region as a local guardian of peace. and stands as a bulwark against the jihadist movements present in the Horn of Africa.
Ethiopian soldiers are already involved in several peacekeeping missions in Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan. In areas where international organizations increasingly tend to delegate their interventions to local actors, Ethiopia intends to adapt its army to future operations and a regional driving force of deterrence for joint interventions within the framework of the United Nations. "UN," says a defense analyst from the region who wishes to remain anonymous and ensures that Ethiopia has also turned to the United States, Russia and Italy to strengthen its arsenal.
This role of regional gendarme contrasts with his inability to manage his own internal tensions. Last November, 86 people were killed in demonstrations at the call of a political opponent.
In debt, does Ethiopia have the means?Ethiopia is on the brink of internal implosion. A more comprehensive restructuring of the military sector (assuming that men would follow arms, and even that would be financed from other budgets) would no doubt favor an authoritarian and violent resolution of the current crisis. Any strengthening of this sector in a crisis situation must be watched with great attention "warns Sabine Planel.
Beyond political considerations, could Ethiopia repay the French State? In the letter sent to Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister himself recognizes his "glaring lack of foreign currency" and seeks a loan to "be delivered in a short period of time." The Elysée's communication department assured Le Point that
but that Francethe agreement signed last March opens the way for sectoral cooperation in the field of the navy and the air force,
With a public debt of 61%, according to the World Bank, this country of 110 million people is already accumulating foreign loans. Between 2006 and 2015, China lent $13 billion in exchange for licensing investment projects. In June 2018, the Ethiopian central bank received a billion dollars from the United Arab Emirates, allegedly playing a role in the rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea, where their rear base is located in their war in Yemen. Another two billion Emirati dollars will also finance investments in Ethiopia, seen by Abu Dhabi's crown prince, Mohammed Bin Zayed, as a pivot of his policy of expansion and influence in Africa.does not is not at this level of discussion.
* Egypt bought 24 Rafale, for about 90 million euros each. According to The Tribune, Ukraine has ordered H-225 Super Puma helicopters around 15 million euros a unit, 5 million for the H125M and 11 million for the H145M; India bought around 28 million euros the Airbus C295. The Dassault Neuron drones have not yet been exported, but its program cost 406 million euros.

No Ethiopian leader would commence such a large Dam without putting Egyptian Chauvinists in the equation.
Meles has responded to such threats in the past without blinking. We don't need a lot of Arms to stop the Egyptians dead in their tracks. Ethiopian army is an arms length of Aswan to deliver. Lots of experience in the Sudan terrain to spare Sudan.
So, if Egypt dare "preempt a strike", she can kiss the river goodbye.
The following is an example of what can happen; such kind of capability was documented as being acquired during Derg time FYI.
It is in the interest of Egyptian chauvinists not to take our kindness for weakness.

No choice but to get armed as your potential foe, not for war reasons but for detterance. This’s good for all sides the hunter & the prey alike.
Rough neighborhood, I remember Woyane created enemy in the north to create excuse to move all Ethiopia military hardware to Tigray including Air Force plus build military air ports.
There won’t be war between Egypt and Ethiopia, but creating enemy will justify their shopping spree. Egypt can hire ethoash & co to undo Ethiopia... ethoash & co. Are Ready for hire for the highest bidder to do their usual dirty job for outsiders, and the incompetent PM would not deal with them. This PM wouldn’t even catch a criminal Getachew Asefa who reside in his territory (new Somaliland aka agamestan), let alone fight Egypt... wake up folks. Dr love’s in no mood for war ( he’ll cave in to whatever the USA wants).
The French want to agitate both sides so it can sell more and create more clients.

r u evil? or what tooooooooooooooooooo evil for Ethiopian to do this but the Egyptian must be told in many way war should not be on the table because u lose u give them the list of end game scenario...
but u have to tell them million time the Ethiopia will not strike first.. but if Egypt strike first say goodbye to Egypt .. in fact we must produce movie cartoon in many way to show them how they going to be defeated this way we win the sociology of war before the war started this sociology of war is must be based on truth..
1.one the dam itself can be weapon if Ethiopia open the gate Egypt would be history
2. i will not repeat what u just said but that also must be told so that they should not get adventurist... this will also backfired because they will killed all our Ethiopian immigrated while the effect of your medicine take 40 years ... if u ask me this method will backfire because the water that goes to Egypt is the one that come back to us.. in form of rain where do u get rain u think? the same water that Egypt use the water evoporated in Egypt and come as could in Ethiopia and rain fail and the cycle repeat it self if we poisoned our own water then we get poison water
anyhow as art u show them what Ethiopia can do .. if we cant use it so why we need it no body can use it u tell them this and u hummer this home then u take it back by telling them we will poison ourselves if we poison u
3. Egypt cant fight people who r aiming at them from mountain .. i dont think Egypt saw Mountain in their life time so how in hell they going to fight us while we r mountain people
so there is no winner in this war no body will allow us to poison the whole Egypt people...
now what is the best way out as our dear golden kid meles said win win solution ..
the Egypt always said we going to wage a war that means Ethiopia lose Egypt win .. that is not a solution in Ethiopia case also we want Eypt to lose and we win that also not a solution the solution is when both side we for this it simple very simple in fact we over look the soultion thinking it cant be..
planting grass and tree is the solution to increase the water supply ..
now Ethiopian use wood for fire to cook their food to stop this we have to give them electricity that means it is in Egypt interest that all Ethiopian cook in electricity and stop cutting wood ... in fact Egypt should give 100 million of dollar for panting date tree and other tree they r specialized and Ethiopian farmer get expertly farming Technic from Egypt to make them more productive ... more money means more improvement in life standard and less farmer would be engaged in farming and few modern farmer would have use less water because of modern technology..
by the way the Nile river is seasonal it only flow in winter time but if we build the dam we will supply Egypt regular water without flooding this would have greater benefit for Egypt and this fact must be told for Egypt million time in their own language to avoid war
another thing is it would be in best interest of Ethiopia to invite Egyptian farmer to come and farm in Ethiopia .. this can be arranged based regional level if the Amahra doesnt want the Egypt but the oromo want their investment let them go to oromia and invest ...closer and sister nationhood only our way out........................
building Nile dam is discovering oil for Ethiopia we will get billion of dollar not only one but many dam can be contracted hence we need the trust of Egypt we cant joke about this but in the same time we should not let them say all kind of crazy thing .. for example i head if 2% of nile reudce one million people die .. that mean not Ethiopian poor die but what they are saying is Etyhpian

now Ethiopian use wood for fire to cook their food to stop this we have to give them electricity that means it is in Egypt interest that all Ethiopian cook in electricity and stop cutting wood ... in fact Egypt should give 100 million of dollar for panting date tree and other tree they r specialized and Ethiopian farmer get expertly farming Technic from Egypt to make them more productive ... more money means more improvement in life standard and less farmer would be engaged in farming and few modern farmer would have use less water because of modern technology..
by the way the Nile river is seasonal it only flow in winter time but if we build the dam we will supply Egypt regular water without flooding this would have greater benefit for Egypt and this fact must be told for Egypt million time in their own language to avoid war
another thing is it would be in best interest of Ethiopia to invite Egyptian farmer to come and farm in Ethiopia .. this can be arranged based regional level if the Amahra doesnt want the Egypt but the oromo want their investment let them go to oromia and invest ...closer and sister nationhood only our way out........................
building Nile dam is discovering oil for Ethiopia we will get billion of dollar not only one but many dam can be contracted hence we need the trust of Egypt we cant joke about this but in the same time we should not let them say all kind of crazy thing .. for example i head if 2% of nile reudce one million people die .. that mean not Ethiopian poor die but what they are saying is Etyhpian

Zmeselo's showing his frustration here, Ethiopia pays around two billion dollars to Djibouti because more than 98% of Ethiopia import and export trade passes through Djibouti port, so take your frustration out on your government.
Ethiopia will continue to rely on reputable Djibouti for sea port.
