The biggest threat to Eritrea is internal, not external. Even during haileslasie time, if Eritrean opposed Union with Ethiopia in unison there wouldn’t be Federation. Andnet party elite Eritreans at that time thought, it was better to unite than take the risk of getting Arabized. Haileslassie took the elite Eritreans at the time to mahal Hager and gave them prestige roles example is dictator Isaias’s uncle Solomon Abraha was governor of a province.
The threat from Ethiopia is very low, because even under warmongering leader from any tribe, Ethiopian will be fighting their own demons of tribalism. Amhara( next PM) in power Oromos and tigreans will fight him. Oromo (Abiy) in power the Amharas and tigreans will fight him...Tigre( Meles) in power Oromo and Amhara fought him plus Eritreans and undone TPlf regime, that cycle will continue and the smartest thing for any Ethiopian ruler is to be friends with Eritrea so Eritrans don’t support his enemies just like what Abiy’s doing. Imagine Abiy picks a fight with Eritrea, Eritrea can rehire TPlf to undo him... that cycle will continue until the empire is dissolved. There’s a terminal tribal identity politics that will consume our neighbor and that’ll make them less of a threat to us.
The biggest threat to Eritrea is our own making of following a failed hybrid of socialism and communism which gave birth to our dictatorship. This’s a cruel system that’s destroying the Eritrean family fabric. The Isaias cadres you see write here are suffering from a psychological disease called Stockholm syndrome that making them deny reality ( not seeing the difference between Eritrea and Isaias), and support the dictatorship that made them and their family refugees.they are loyal foot soldiers who can’t think independently. Some of them supporting the regime that’s arresting their family member or killed their family member.
There’s no Eritrean who hasn’t suffered from this dictatorship and the biggest threat to Eritrea is it’s own children arrogance and luck of seeing the difference between right and wrong. Uncle Isaias is old man who is stuck in the old world view mindset and he’s driving the Eritrean ship to the ditch and his followers are clapping for him instead of telling him Not to take us to the ditch.
It’s not to late and I am still hopeful the after Isaias Eritrea will be stable with a smooth transition...Wedehankum
