I advised abiy this a year ago:

ODP has historic opportunity of being the major power holder with foreign support, and it's natural to take its platform, as articulated by PM Abiy and President Lemma, national.

It's well known, to overcome the perception of being hired hand, ODP recently brought in seasoned and genuine Oromo party, ODF, an offshoot of OLF. This has enabled it to compete against OLF and others in Oromia that are in the heart and minds of the Oromo.

ODP, if it chooses, can do the same all over the country. Just as a moderate off shoot of OLF has been brought in as equal partner, a moderate offshoots of ARENA and ABN can be brought in as well. Then re-orient their nationalistic attitudes without having to condemn the nationalist groups they come from. This can be multiplied everwhere for a stronger federalists party that serves wider area and diverse interests instead of each pursuing fragmented interests.

Concurrently, or once the moderate federalists precence is expanded from Oroma to the rest, off shoots of the unitary parties like G7 can be brought in as well as equal partners. The federalism vs. untary equilibrium point has to be debated and resolved at this stage with future peace, stability and properity of 100 million people in mind.

This should result in a strong party that can snatch votes nationally from rigid groups such as TPLF, OLF, AAPO and even extreme nationalist wings of ARENA, ABN, OFC etc etc

All regions are fertile grounds for such result oriented party as the worsening socio economic fragmentation limits the potential for all groups and individuals without exception.

Have you ever contemplated the formation of federal republic of south Ethiopia, tigray republic and northern Ethiopia (amhara region). Basically this is what is brewing in the current Ethiopian political environment. Hawasa or adama can be the capital. Addis will remain seat of AOU, but not the capital.
So the question should be who will federate with Amhara than Tigray. Tigray has already built all the needed infrastructure to be an independent state.
