Re: New Permanent Representative of Eritrea at U.N Sofia Tefamariam Presents Credentials to UN secretary-general Antonio
It has to be one of the proudest moments of my life...I was honored and privileged to present the Letters of Credence from H. E. President Isaias Afwerki to Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary General yesterday in New York, appointing me as Permanent Representative of the State of Eritrea to the UN with rank of Ambassador Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary.
I told the Secretary General that my appointment was a testament of the Government of Eritrea's commitment to gender equality and the advancement of Eritrean women everywhere. As the first female Ambassador from the Diaspora, it also shows Eritrea's commitment to the participation of its Diaspora in the economic, social and political development of Eritrea.
I want to take this opportunity to thank my team at the Eritrean Mission in New York for their invaluable guidance and support....the luncheon, cake and wine were great too.
My beloved community in the DMV...thank you for everything. The love and support you have given me over the years is immeasurable. The good thing is that I will be back working with all of you again, so I will hold back the tears.
Last but not least, I want to thank AbdulRasheed Abubakar my partner at the African Diaspora Magazine for pushing me to excel and for his friendship and support.
Do stay in touch...Will be counting on all of you as I embark on this new and exciting journey before me...
