To me:
1. individualism: his developed personality centered around self and self-protection above all else. To separate himself from friends around him and notice any perceived nuances of differences as dangerous to him and act in self-preservation
2. his ability to establish and maintain absolutely secret loyalist group separate from the DERG committee who would obey his command without question. Cols. Daniel Asfaw and Mengist Gemechu are worthy of mention.
