q*mata is found largely among Gallas and to some extent among all other ethnics.
The notion leprosy is hereditary or confined to certain ethnic or racial group is unscientific and stupid.

Leprosy cases are rising in the US – what is the ancient disease and why is it spreading now?

India leads the world in the number of leprosy cases followed by Brazil,
Is caused by a bacteria
95% humans are immune to the leprosy bacterium

ቁርንጭጭ ጎጠኛ

Leprosy remains a significant public health issue in Ethiopia, with high-burden areas, including parts of the southern regions, still reporting new cases despite achieving national elimination targets. While multidrug therapy (MDT) is free, challenges like, stigma, limited healthcare access, and low community awareness drive continued transmission.

Key Findings on Leprosy in Southern Ethiopia:
High Burden Areas: The Oromia region and surrounding southern areas contribute to over 76% of Ethiopia's total cases, with many districts in the West Arsi zone identified as high-burden areas.
Childhood and Adolescent Cases:

Studies in rural southern Ethiopia have shown that leprosy, particularly in children and adolescents, is a persistent problem, with a high prevalence of multibacillary disease and grade 2 disabilities.

Transmission and Diagnosis: Despite efforts, early detection is hampered by social stigma and misconceptions. Active, house-to-house case finding in leprosy-endemic communities has been implemented to address these challenges.
Impact on Health: Untreated cases lead to significant nerve damage, loss of sensation, and physical disabilities.
Control Efforts: While Ethiopia has integrated leprosy control into general health services since 2001, targeted efforts are still necessary in Southern Ethiopia to manage and eliminate the disease.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and partners are actively working with Ethiopian health authorities to reach the goal of eliminating leprosy by 2030.
