Both fought for independence in the 1980s and 1970s. Both of them initially wanted union with Ethiopia and Somalia respectfully but later on regretted under difference pretext ofcourse I know that Eritreans were divided on full independence the low landers wanted full independence and the highlanders didn’t mind unity with Ethiopia ofcourse with a clear federation both rejected the division of Eritrea the evil work of the un later on . Somalilanders overwhelmingly wanted unity with Somalia because they wanted to fight of Haile sellasie who took a chunk of British Somaliland territory and add it to Ethiopia . This was their reason but soon they felt betrayed by Somalia and felt like they were made a province of Somalia when they were two sovereignt states that united so tell me ur Eritrean what gives why do Eritreans oppose the self determination of Somaliland
