Former EPRP members who admit to committing or aiding assassinations as long as the old EPRP existed in the 1960 thru the 1980s or more, telling their criminal adventures unforced, voluntary stories of their involvement in the assassination of opposite political parties should be tried for justice. The decision of taking lives by the accused without due process of self-defence for the victim(s) and outside of the law is criminal in the penal codes of Ethiopia and such violators of the law should be tried for their crimes. Whether the EPRP victims themselves were criminals is not legally satisfaying reason for the EPRP to take the law into its own hands, and act as a judge and jury.
I know two Gurages who admitted involvement in killing of Ethiopians who belonged in the opposite political camp.
One is a businessman in the US. He told a social media, during a chit chat, that he was born and raised in Addis. Joined the EPRP. And that he was in the armed wing of the EPRP. When intellegince reached EPRP that the Ethiopian security were looking to arrest him, EPRP dispatched him to Endibr, 7bet Gurage. He said he was one of the few who decided on death sentences of suspects in Gurage. He said they(him and others) executed only one in Gurage.
The other is Birratu Naga. During the 1997 election campaigns, he voluntarily told a print media which published the interview, that he used to drive EPRP assassins to murder locations by a van(family business van?). If family van was involved, his family especially his parents will be questioned whether they knew about it and why they still allowed the van to be used in commissions of murders.
No criminal should be allowed to brag about their crimes and continue to live in the society whose laws they violated. As well, families of the victims deserve justice. The murdered Ethiopians deserve justice. Ethiopia failed to protect them but it should provide them with justice posthumously.
EPRP's targets were intellectuals and youth members of MESON, the ALL Ethiopia Socialist Movement. EPRP did not kill DERG members.
