Well, let me share this real story. I was once in a baptismal event of a good friend of mine. He is Amhara and from a priestly family and he was a deacon actually. As interconnected as we all are, he had Eritrean friends and a few of them were in the house for the lunch. The Eritrean woman asked my friend on what the name of his newly born baby. He replied to her saying that the name of his child is Biniam. Then the women jokingly said to him that most Ethiopians are now giving Eritrean name to their children. He was shocked and i was holding my laughter. As gentle and as calm deminor he has, he told her that "Biniam" is a biblical hebrew name. She started to argue but he went on to say that Ermias, Yonas...etc are all Israelite biblical names. She was shocked but the resistance not to believe this fact was there from her. My friend was then kind enough to massage her bruised ego by telling her the fact that Eritreans in Asmara and Akele Guzay learnt to name their children biblical name due to catholic influences. But before that, it was Orthodox names like tekle giorgis, haile mariam, welde-*** , kefle*** etc

I have never heard of Ethiopians naming: Yemane, Abeselom, Filmon, Nahom, etc these are Eritrean names.

That being said, we Ethiopians and Eritreans having meaningful indigenous names of our own such as Kebede, Abebech, Ethiopian unique spiritual name such as Gebre meskel, Haile Selassie, then all traditional names have their own ethnic-version name such as: Amharic version ( Kasaye), Tigrayan version ( Kahsai), then Amharic name ( Bekele), Oromo name ( Bikila),,etc then Oromo and other ethnic names also have their own distinct indigenous names such as Bedasa, Ararsa, Gurage's name have few such as Zeberga, etc. It is blessing the fact that to have distinct names from the world. Hello, first off, you are misunderstanding what l meant, l should have emphasized even though they are Biblical names, those names are majority Eritreans use. Basically l was repeating to what you said earlier as Eritreans utilise these specific names, it is odd that Ethiopians never use those names from the Bible l wonder why. Yohanes, Bibiam, Yoseph are widely used by both nations.
