Shame on Ethiopians in Hararghe for not standing with the righteous struggles

Post by Naga Tuma » 02 Sep 2025, 16:51

The word Ethiopia may be based on an ancient Greek word that has a documented reference.

The reference wrote about an ancient romance between a gentleman from ancient Greece and a lady from ancient Meroe.

Even though I haven’t verified, I have read from one source that there is a ጎሳ known as ሞሮዋ in Hararghe.

I have also heard from another source that there is also a ጎሳ known by the same name in Borana.

I have heard about a place called መራዊ in Gojam.

I am not a trained historian to make associations between these four names. So, I would leave that study to trained historians.

However, as a student of Ethiopia’s recent history, whether a ጎሳ known as ሞሮዋ exists in Hararghe or not, in my view, in many ways, Hararghe means Ethiopia and Ethiopia means Hararghe.

Moreover, if it is true that a ጎሳ known as ሞሮዋ exists in Hararghe, replace Ethiopia with ሞሮዋ and read what it means to say ሞሮዋ means Hararghe and Hararghe means ሞሮዋ, figuratively.

The fact that it took a very long time since the fall of Meroe and the rebirth of Ethiopia as a country informs enlightened people all over the world that forming a country, putting a resilient government structure in place, maintaining them, improving them may be one of the genius inventions by humankind.

The rebirth of Ethiopia in the eve of the battle of Adwa wasn’t without local conflicts. One of the notable ones was in Hararghe.

In my understanding, that local conflict was concluded by the accord signed between Atse Menelick and the local leaders of Hararghe after the battle of Adwa.

Even though the victory was not total, one can imagine that it became a righteous rise that brought in Hararghe to become a de facto political community of Ethiopia.

Ethiopians rose again in the eve of the Second World War. I do not know about any recorded history that Ethiopians in Hararghe did not rise with other Ethiopians or failed to support them.

Ethiopia’s struggles with others to establish the Organization of African Unity and become a member state of the United Nations were more righteous struggles for the Ethiopian political community that includes Hararghe.

Once more, I do not know about any recorded history that Ethiopians in Hararghe did not rise with other Ethiopians or failed to support them in these righteous struggles.

Subsequent internal struggles by all Ethiopians for democratic governance of the Ethiopian political community wasn’t unique in Hararghe.

In my view, what makes it unique is the devolution of the internal political struggle to two factions that I would retrospectively call the Protestant Front for the Liberation of Oromia led by Yohannes Leta and the Islamic Front for the Liberation of Oromia led by Abdulkariem Ibrahim Hamid.

To be sure, neither of them have any proven record of uplifting the ቃሉ of አሰቦት። I write this as someone who refused an invitation to become a Protestant Soldier for the Protestant Front around 1993 in none other than Hararghe and having incidentally seen in which the ቃሉ of አሰቦት was living when the people I was traveling with decided to stop by and talk to him.

አከ ዼርነ ኬቲ ሚለ ኬ ጀለ ከን ጅሩ ከን አገርቱ ፈካተ።

I do not think that a commitment to study what the ቃሉ Front, the Protestant Front, and the Islamic Front may have for the people of Ethiopia or ሞሮዋ or አፍረን ቃሉ takes a lot of thinking. It is for this reason that I say it would be a shame in history books to fail to ask the following two simple questions:

1) If Ethiopia means ሞሮዋ and ሞሮዋ means Ethiopia, why are we fighting against ourselves?

2) Why do we fight for the Protestant Missionary’s fight against our ቃሉ, Ethiopia’s ቃሉ?

It takes a lot of thinking and a lot of studying to understand what it means to say ለካ ኣንተ ነህ … ቃሉ የማይቀለበስ ቃሉ።

It also takes a lot of thinking and understanding to say ኩንስ ሱንስ ሁበ ቀበ።

The litmus question that follows where do you go after you have been enlightened that much.

You continue with sorting out the grain from the chaff and call for a rebirth of the ancient knowledge that the ቃሉ understood and build on that knowledge using scientific methods and processes.

This kind of undertaking was done during the first Renaissance in Europe. Renaissance means rebirth of something else instead of oxymorons saying Renaissance and Jesus with the same mouth.

If you become successful teaching all Ethiopians the truths the ቃሉ had and has and convince more people than not, you become another Ethiopian Renaissance man. I am sure it doesn’t come easily. Yet, you can do your own homework instead of waiting for others to do it for you.
