There has been a sharp uptick in the execution of civilians across Oromia over the past few weeks. I have received scores of photographs, most are too gruesome to be shared publicly. Reports suggest that woreda-level cadres, recently trained for 40 days at the Awash Bishola military camp, have been instructed to act without mercy.

Civilians suspected of sympathizing with rebel groups are being executed in public spaces, including marketplaces. In many instances, communities are not permitted to bury the victims. Their bodies are left on open display in the streets for days, supposedly aimed at sending a chilling message to others.
