May 11, 2025 (EL OBEID) – Sudan’s army said on Sunday its forces and allies had recaptured the town of Al-Khuwayyi in West Kordofan state after fierce clashes with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The RSF had announced on May 3 that it had taken Al-Khuwayyi, located about 110 km (68 miles) west of El Obeid, a day after its fighters seized El Nahud, a major town in West Kordofan.Sudan online shopping

Minni Minawi, governor of the Darfur region and a key figure in the Joint Force, confirmed on the social media platform X the recapture of Al-Khuwayyi and the nearby town of Umm Sammaymah in North Kordofan state.

The army had resumed military operations in the wider Kordofan region on Saturday, advancing from El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan. During these operations, it captured the Umm Sammaymah area after intense fighting with the RSF.
The army and its allies aim to advance towards North Darfur state through the West Kordofan operations and break the RSF siege on El Fasher, the state capital and a key city.
