Zack,
Nobody wanted to force you to be Ethiopia against your will. Now, the whole and entire issue is that Assab is an Ethiopian property that was illegally taken by means of conspiracy from a nation that has no advocate or a defender in a detrimental historic decision. Remember, the American mediator is still alive. He had specifically stated/demanded that Assab was an Ethiopian territory but the two brothers in arms took a free ride over the very existential interest of Ethiopia.
Zack, believe me that as long as there Ethiopia and an Ethiopian government of any kind, this issue will not go away.
According to your reasoning, it appears that a statement made by some AMERICAN, which cannot be substantiated, holds more weight Then the people in ethiopia and eritrea individual who claims that Assab is Ethiopian. On what grounds do you base this claim What differentiates Assab from Asmara, Massawa, or Keren? The mere fact that Ethiopia administered or used Assab during the Federation does not necessarily make it Ethiopian territory. this doesnt make any sense
As for the claim that Assab was "illegally taken," no such event occurred. The people of Assab participated in the independence referendum, and there is no evidence to suggest any form of coercion or undue influence in their vote. Like the rest of the regions, they voted for independence from Ethiopia.
Also how can an American make demands regarding matters that do not pertain to their ownership or jurisdiction, especially in relation to Ethiopia and Eritrea? To clarify, no Ethiopian government has ever officially claimed any part of Eritrea. While Abiy Ahmed may have been obsessed with access to a sea outlet, he never claimed that Assab is part of the Galla Empire.
This claim has never been put forward by any Ethiopian government. Rather, it is often promoted by extremist elements from the Amhara ethnic group their gurage side kicks and to some extend their galla slaves ,or certain individuals within the Galla community, who may express such views on social media platforms like Twitter. However, it is clear that no official Ethiopian government has pursued thisort of reasoning not the meles govt and not this govt
