Is Everybody taking advantage of America, or the other way round?

Post by DefendTheTruth » 15 Feb 2025, 06:21

The current president of America, Mr. Donald Trump, repeatedly used the expression "everybody is taking advantage of us" while referring to the economic or market relationships between the countries of the world and US itself. He tried to stress the trade imbalance between the countries and his own country thereby.

I didn't try to analyse and study how the real trade balance between the current US market and the rest of the world looks like, instead I am trying to look at the allegation of the everybody else taking advantage of the US. Is that really the case?

We all know the current US economy is built by people from all over the world that came to the US by nothing else but the well orchestrated system of brain-drain. Many poor countries around the world spent their dire resources to educate their young people who mostly then ended up migrating and helping the target country of their migration. America is the land of migrants, like the saying goes.

I am not sure if there could be anyone with the right mind who could make the claim that without the brain-drain scheme the US economy and technological advantage could have been realized. In that case the US has taken advantage over the rest and developed its economy. Now to turn around and make the claim that "everybody is taking advantage of us" is adding an insult to the sustained injury.

While America took that profound advantage over the rest, the source countries suffered under their lose. I remember an article I read somewhere in the internet before at least 20 years which stated "there are more Ethiopian physician doctors in one of America's cities than in the whole of Ethiopia itself". And those doctors were trained by the dire resources of the poor Ethiopia rather than by host country of their migration. Now Ethiopia is also considered to have taken advantage of America. This can be said for many countries around the world.

I raised this point here to remind everybody about the wake-up call Mr. Trump is making to the many still in deep sleep and oblivious of what is going on in the world around them.

This is a moral imperative.
