I think to have heard somewhere about a comment attributed to Prof. Merera Gudina of OFC about ethnic nationalism: "it is something similar to trying to hold on the tail of a running tiger" (or something very similar). Another dumb claim to accuse Shaebia of ethnic nationalism! It clearly shows that you have no inderstanding what ethnic nationalism is! Eritrea is composed of 9 ethnic groups and there was no time in our history of the past 60 years when ethnic politics was a factor! On the contrary, as far as 1985, when Eritreans were fighting to free themselves of the Ethiopian conlonialist occupation, Shaebya was urging Ethiopians not to fall prey to the ethnic fragmentation of their nation! It shows the maturity and far-sightedness of the EPLF leaders not to be swayed by short-term benefits. The ethnic fragmentation of Ethiopia might have benefitted the Eritrean struggle enormously and it might appear to be very odd to observers that the EPLF cared about the enemy not disintegrating! But EPLF leaders did not pursue it because Eritrea's struggle was to free Eritrea and not destroy Ethiopia!
