Who got NGOs into Ethiopia? It is TPLF. With donation, there is free money that goes to the dictators. They feed the poor, but they prop up the dictator. Zenawi and TPLF were donor darlings. They were errand boys for liberals. All liberal media helped them with fabrication. There were not that many NGOs prior to this ethnic federal garbage. The Tigreans are pleading to the current president of USA to enable them to continue to be a pet for the west and destabilized Ethiopia like during the Biden administration. They already submitted their letter of intention: lol:

It is not the donation that is bad. Russia donated to shabiya tons of wheat. The donation does not often end in the right place. Thy don't funnel it directly to gov coffer because of abuse and being used for the military/killing their own people.
China donates to all parties including Eritrea.

Eritrea froze in time and place because of their belligerent attitude, poor international relations, the unbending behavior of their everlasting king and TPLF big man Zenawi. They did not receive western donation because the two fell out. As a result, Eritreans flew to all over the place in the world. There is no one or few people in the country to require global donor attention.

There is nothing to be proud for Eritrea for not receiving donor hand out. As far as you know how to use the donation and you control the purpose, in other words, if you know how to manage it, donation may not be that bad or should not be that stigmatized.

Of course, if it is abused, it is a source of political turmoil, servitude, instability and power struggle which the Eri strongman did not like. The fight for example among Oromo fascists is not due to really addressing anything of political difference. It is for sharing, usurping power and wealth coming as donation, international lending and export resource control. Billions of dollars coming from IMF and other international donor agency are actually a source of conflict as everybody wants to get its share unless managed by a government of the people.
