The child king satan Mamo Killo and his PP demons are morons. They know nothing about economics, politics or diplomacy. Just the other month one of the demons by the nick DDT was advising people to hoard Birr cause "it was getting stronger" after the floating exchange mechanism was implemented by his boss, Lucifer Mamo Killo. And another wutaf nekai by the name Horus was claiming the black market would disappear and diaspora Ethiopians would not "exploit the poor and accumulate wealth and properties in the country any longer". He was just displaying his jealousy for ppl with hard currency. Little did he know the black market rate would soar and give the very advantages he envies to the diaspora.

Any investor requires 1st security, 2nd efficient bureaucracy & fare taxation 3rd, Less corruption. After more than six years on power, Abiy has failed to deliver all of them. That is why Chinese, Turkish, Indian, Ethiopian & diaspora investors are running away from the country. USA ban of Ethiopia from AGOA may have also contributed for investors to flee Ethiopia.

Don't shot the messenger. Here's another report with a direct quote from Mr Wu. Are you going to call APA News a Weyane outlet as well?

Macro Economy management requires people who are far-sighted thinkers with understanding of complex and conflicting theories. It seems these are skills that Abiy and his team are not capable to master.

Why more Chinese businesses are exiting Ethiopia?

APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia)30 September 2024

Several Chinese investors who have been operating in Ethiopia have been increasingly shifting their business operations to neighbouring countries such as Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, it has been observed.

With investments exceeding $5 billion across over 2,000 projects, Chinese companies have been central to Ethiopia’s industrial growth over the past few years.

However, these companies have been packing their bags and leaving for other countries in the region.

But why?

According to the representative of Chinese investors in Ethiopia, several pressing issues have caused significant disruptions to business operations for foreign investors from China who see incentives in other nwoghbouring countries as more attractive.

“Ethiopia is facing serious difficulties,” Wu said.

“Key concerns include security challenges, a shortage of foreign currency, and a limited market for goods,” he said.

He also pointed at ongoing tax-related complications.

“Dealing with customs is particularly frustrating, and once products are delivered, the feedback from customers is often negative” he added.

In addition to these domestic issues, global trade challenges have further complicated the situation for investors.

The ongoing security concerns in Ethiopia have disrupted international freight and logistics, making it increasingly difficult for businesses to operate smoothly.

The flight of Chinese businesses from Ethipia has sparked concerns among both the Chinese embassy and Ethiopian authorities about its potential impact on the nation’s economy, said Hanna Arayaselassie, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC) at a relevant meeting over the issue on Monday.

By mid-2024, Chinese companies had provided approximately 610,000 jobs in Ethiopia, contributing significantly to the country’s modernisation efforts.

Arayaselassie, also acknowledged these difficulties during the Ethio-China Friendship Cooperation Forum held earlier last month.

She highlighted that while efforts to strengthen trade and investment ties between Ethiopia and China have shown promise, the current business environment remains a challenge for many foreign investors.

A representative from the Chinese embassy also voiced serious concerns over the recent exodus of investors.

“Several factors have led Chinese businesses to relocate to neighbouring countries. This shift is a major concern, not just for the embassy but also for Ethiopia, as we aim to promote continued cooperation between the two nations,” Andy Wu, a representative of Chinese investors in Ethiopia said.

Whose is this "APA News" anyway?

There is no guarantee that these dubious names can't be bribed. Flying over the text of the article just raises my eye-brows even more.

Look for example at the following, cited as main reasons for fleeing from Ethiopia:
“Key concerns include security challenges, a shortage of foreign currency, and a limited market for goods,” he said.

What security is he talking now suddenly? Where was he/she during the security concerns that of the times when the "western powers" who gave order to their citizens to leave the country? Was he/she asleep back then?

Foreign currency shortage? Funny! At the time when the country was said to have faced a critical shortage they didn't leave and now after the country was relatively overflowed by IMF and WB funds with foreign currency the entity couldn't bear with the shortage! What an inept?

Limited market? Why did they come to Ethiopia in the first place then? Without studying the market? Which market is more favorable in those countries they are said to move to than they are in Ethiopia?

All in all the article seems to have been authored by Dedebit ጥራዝ ነጠቆች!

sarcasm,

okay, let me not shoot the messenger but then you are duty bound to explain to me how these two scenarios fit to teach other obviously from the same country at the same time? I think both reports are even from the same date (I didn't check but think both to be from the 30th of September, 2024), isn't it?

Mind you Addis Standard used to be on sarcasm's side up until now, what is going on the camp of TPLFites?

Hi Defend,

Addis Standard is one the few reliable high quality media in Ethiopia. The Capital report and the below AS report were covering different events although they were written around the same time. The Capital article was reporting the discussion in Ethio-China Friendship Cooperation Forum. Oh the other hand, the AS post was covering decisions of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). By the way, Capital has also written a few articles on FOCAC summit.
