Puntland has no desire to separate itself from Somalia. It has invested considerable time and effort into the broader Somali state and into Mogadishu specifically. The current discord arises from President Hassan's recent constitutional amendments, which Puntland finds objectionable. However, Puntland has never sought independence from Somalia; such a notion has never truly been pursued or advocated.

Puntland’s stance remains resolutely against secession, a sentiment that is reinforced by observing Somaliland’s prolonged struggle. Despite 33 years of seeking recognition, Somaliland's independence has not been acknowledged by a single United Nations member state. Given this, it is unlikely that any other region within Somalia would pursue a similar path towards secession indeed.
