It was only 15 years ago that the Agame started celebrating Ashenda in Chigray.

Ashenda is historically an Eritrean religious festival to welcome God's blessings in the new year. But the agame have turned the religious festival into a sex party, where many young agame girls lose their virginity at the sex parties to start a new life of prostitution.

Tigray TV said the government of Tigray is considering ways to make Ashenda an income generating event by inviting diaspora agame men to come to Chigray as sex tourists and spend their money on wild sex parties.
