The number one country in Africa/ Middle East that have been trying to prevent any progress in Ethiopia is Egypt. The fact that Ethiopian Airlines has been able to break the barrier and has become the number one airline in Africa, by surpassing Egypt Air, is an indication that what Ethiopia could be in the future and a big threat and concern for Egypt's and Egypt Airs dominance, in the region . Egypt is using its proxies in Eritrea, Sudan and Somalia to disrupt the operation of Ethiopian Airlines by denying its navigational rights and traffic rights . The ban on navigational rights will increase flight time and fuel and navigational costs in millions of dollar per year and the ban in traffic rights will decrease the airlines revenue significantly. Safety of its operations is also going to be affected as it has to follow a narrow navigational routes that could be easily congested & cause accidents. Therefore, Egypt is effectively using its proxies to damage the major foreign currency earner and the display of the soft power of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Airlines. This is part of Egypt strategy to destroy Ethiopia in reaction to the construction of the renaissance dam and the Ethiopian government has to defend Ethiopian Airlines in a proactive and aggressive manner.
Recommended solutions :
- The Ethiopian government has to follow a strategy to make sure governments in Sudan, Eritrean, Somalia and Djibouti are always friendly and not a threat to Ethiopia's interests
- It high time for the Abiy government to move fast and break the axis of evil against Ethiopia by nullifying the untimely MOU it signed with internationally unrecognized Somaliland . By doing so Somalia will not have any excuse to ban Ethiopian Airlines.
- The customer service at the Addis Ababa Airport has to be radically improved specially to theft of baggages, smuggling, corruption etc.
- Abiy has to focus on bringing back our access to the sea via Assab( deal with one enemy at a time rather than two/multiple enemies)
