The next phase is to be launched very soon, according to the chief architect of the phenomenal transformation of Addis, PM Abiy Ahmed.
I think the next round of this Corridor Development of Addis will transform Markato? The old form of open air market will be possibly get transformed into a modern day mall based market and associated facilities and services. Without transforming Markato we can't face-lift Addis very much.

DDT,
You can’t teach stupid.
This is not development and it shouldn’t be a priority to the government. In a country where 20 millions are starving, in a country that spends mostly on armaments more than it produces by borrowing in hard currency, in a country where 75% of the population with no adequate clean water or electricity.
Abiye Ahmed Ali the clown grabbed a huge job and responsibility and reduced it to a mayoral position.
You may chat with rotten head Horus to feel good.

At least, we can feed ourselves and don't waste 80% of our resources on pointless flashy projects. But you are trying to bamboozle your people with glitz. What does it matter to 95% of your people if Abiy builds a $10 billion palace? Nothing. I can understand it if a 7th grader thinks he is doing history by that when his nation is disintegrating, but for people like you, who should know better, to applaud him is a crime.

You see this kind of stupid idea is why people don't support PP's pet projects in Addis Ababa.
Why would you want to transform Mercato. It has historical significance. It is a tourist attraction. If your desire is to have a modern shopping center why don't you erect new ones in all corners of the city. Hell you can build a modern shopping center in Shegar city, LegeTafo, Tuludimtu, Akaki, Goro, and many other neighborhoods. Why do you need to touch Mercato?
It also has financial benefits to leave Mercato alone and build new shopping centers: Mercato continues to provide service while new ones are built; the demolishing and compensation cost will be eliminated; business owners will not be displaced and continue to contribute to the tax revenue; tourists will come to see unique and historic shopping center that they wouldn't be able to see in Singapore or USA; and so many other benefits.
Now, do you see how stupid your idea of transforming mercato to your modern and superficial Christmas lights looking concept is?

I appreciate the transformation of Addis Ababa. However, all glitters are not gold, we need to dig deep into the non- transparent, corrupted and blood thirsty nature of the Abiy government . Unable to exert control out of Addis Ababa after six years of messing the country, Abiy has no options but focusing on quick win, non- strategic and less priority projects.

Abiy begged your thugs by literally kneeling down on their toes to avoid war, they refused to heed and declared a preemptive blitz-krieg to neutralize the most dependable anchor of the National Defense Force of the nation instead, still you dare to call him a blood thirsty?
Have a fear for the Almighty!
I posted somewhere recently a video reporting Tigray alone about to going to produce 24 M. of Kuntals of grains for the current season alone, do you have any figure on how much the region used to produce during the reign of TPLF over Ethiopia?
