Assuming he is telling the truth and not under duress:-
Fanos have been doing that for a while. Feeding POWS and sending them back home or PP did not sound ok at least from resource and time perspective. Although the moral side of their deed might have impressed the mind of people, stories like this show it is an absurd thing to do and they should find a way how to use them; make a lesson to others coming to comit crime.

I had to add “assuming” because that is what is legally said when some one speaks being scared of his life. You see he has ?blood on his right neck. Also not sure he is tied backward and the person interviewing him might have gun and scared of dying.
In any case his coming back to war front again is stupid thing to do. He played with his life and the good samaritans life. I would not be surprised if they shoot him in the end. He is not homeless. Homeless people appreciate a penny you drop for them. This freeloader was well fed for full four months and when he told them that his mother was sick, they paid 8,000 plane ticket and sent him. This level of kindness melts the heart and mind of a sane citizen.
