About the dissertation, I say one thing: he did not write his dissertation about sociology ; he wrote about engineering, but I confess whether it is electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering that I do not know. You must be read it from Thomas. I am not questioning him his English proficiency but he does not know any language including Tigrigna and Amharic. Anyone can write in any language if that person is master of that language. In Ethiopia any student reached to PHD level must know English language, Debretsiion does not know and he cannot put one sentence correctly in writing or spoken in any language.
