As to the topic at hand, yes muslims are allowed to marry 4. It was socially meant to save the widows who were losing their husbands in wars lest they end up as shermuchoch or whorrres as we are witnessing in abyssinia.

Seriously though, nowadays the only who can afford to have 4 wives are the rich gulf states emirs or kings and not any average muslim who faces difficulties and even one wife is more than enough for him be it economically or if it is meant for sexual lust.
