Zaptiya is a turkish word and it means soldier or askari as the tigriyans cynically or wickedly say.

Our forefathers used to address the soldiers then as zaptiya.

In the hey days, in Eritrea we did have FRUSTALE which means soldiers of the forests. They were after those who cut trees and kill animals and they were bringing them to justice.

We did also had HAKIM ASSEHA, they belonged to the ministry of health. They unexpectedly appear at your house, they check your pot which is full of water and if they notice and suspect that something extraordinary is inside the pot they pour it out.

That was then when we were civilized.

I hope, I have answered your question.
