Ethiopia’s premier awarded prestigious UN food and agriculture medal
MOGADISHU, Somalia
Ethiopia’s prime minister on Sunday was awarded the prestigious UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s (FAO) Agricola Medal in Rome.
Abiy Ahmed was awarded for his government’s vision, leadership, and commitment to food security and nutrition as well as the pursuit of innovative solutions in wheat self-sufficiency, according to a statement issued by his office on Sunday.
The Agricola Medal honors “distinguished” personalities for their commitment and support to the promotion of sustainable food production, world food security, and international cooperation.
In a brief statement after the ceremony in Rome, Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the Food and Agriculture Organization for “bestowing the prestigious Agricola Medal for our efforts towards the attainment of food security.”
He said his government’s focus on high-value and industrial crops is “yielding promising results and we are committed to our food sovereignty path.”
The award comes as the Horn of Africa nation is witnessing one of the worst droughts in decades, as close to 4 million Ethiopians need urgent food assistance.
Ethiopia’s Disaster Risk Management Commission said earlier this month that the situation had deteriorated significantly due to malnutrition rates and severe water scarcity coupled with a surge in disease outbreaks.
More than 860 people have died in the country’s northernmost Tigray region since September 2023 due to hunger, according to the Tigray communication bureau.
Getachew Reda, the Tigray regional administration interim head, said in December that the situation is a “catastrophe” comparable to the deadly 1984 famine in Ethiopia that left millions dead.
He said the legacies of the destructive war in Tigray that ended in 2022 and drought-induced famine have created a deadly combination that put 91% of Tigray citizens at risk of starvation.

Aberu,
on a separate note: this is an achievement, an achievement happens by means of hard work behind or on the scene. Hard work is undertaken by people, who work tirelessly to make an impact. In the case of Ethiopian agricultural transformation Oromia played a key role, in addition to the rest other regions, it has the lion's share. For what happened in Oromia, His Excellency President Shimales Abdisa takes the leading role, he worked day and night to get this transformation happen. Credit goes to him. We can have different opinions with regard to issues with his leadership style or imperfections or even failures. But none of us can take away any of the credit that he earned through his hard work and leadership role in the region. Today the PM has personally received the award but that doesn't mean he earned on his own alone, he earned it by his leadership and the people who helped him realize the goals. One of them is President Shimales Abdisa. Fact!
I am tempted to prophesize that he, President Shimales, would also be officially accorded the due recognition for his achievements in the next few days or weeks. Let's wait!

Aberu,
there is an Afan Oromo saying which goes like ዋ ማሌ ማኒ ህን ሃሩ, it means also "there is no smoke without a fire". Ask yourself why President Shimales was selected to comment on the issue of His Excellency Vice PM Demeke Mekonnen leaving his post, which is actually much a senior position to that of the President?
This comment didn't happen out of a blue, I am afraid (for you)!

No one can reasonably claim the audacity to convince the ወለፈንዲዎችን (the paradoxians) but any how FAO is a UN agency, which was created around 80 years ago.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations[note 1] (FAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to defeat hunger and improve nutrition and food security. Its Latin motto, fiat panis, translates to "let there be bread". It was founded on 16 October 1945.[1]

Ay Aberu,
you never disappoint to disappoint!
What a lose !
“We, a collective of concerned individuals, scholars, human rights advocates as well as Diaspora-based civil society organizations are writing to express our profound shock and disappointment concerning the Agricola Award honoring Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia at a time when more than 20 million Ethiopians are suffering from conflict and drought induced hunger. This award diminishes FAO”s status and entails a lasting reputational risk for FAO and the UN system,” Unity For Ethiopia group said.

DTT,
It is obvious you are trying very hard to convince yourself that Abiy the incompetent is Abiy the Great. What matters is not what you or I think but what the majority of Ethiopians think. Abiy has squandered the enormous popular support he had 5 years ago. He is taking Ethiopia down the drain. A pig remains a pig no matter how glossy the lip-stick.

DTT aka Defend The Telalakee aka Defend The Tota (7th king),
Congratulations on the UN-FOA award on agricultural production...its a big change from a year ago when the same UN and USAIDs was accusing the Abiy Ahmed Ethiopian Administration of stealing food aid/wheat from the Tigray region (along with their TPLF partners) and re-packaging it to be sold as an export commodity to the international market.
Also congratulations to you and the Tota king on "ze plane, ze plane"
Given everything else that is happening in the Telalakee Tota King Abiy administration, this is an achievement for Abiy to pause and be proud of (even if he is patting his own back). Maybe you can use the plane to airlift Shimales food aid/wheat to Tigray since your TPLF partners are refusing to spend their stolen millions/billions to feed their own Tigray people and your Tota king is too busy building a multi-Billion Dollar Palace that will last 500 years (Finfine Fantasy Island). You should feel some responsibility since after all you walked your TPLF partners back into Tigray through the backdoor (further peace agreements in Kenya, after the Pretoria agreement).
Whatever you do, don't add arms/weapons to this historical plane to use in your bombing campaign of other Ethiopian regions that you are currently waging an un-just war on...while you let TPLF criminals off scott-free.
By the way has Ethiopia ever received "full " compensation for the mustard gas bomings of Ethiopian civilians during the Italian colonial era & other atrocities?? If not, you missed the opportunity to ask...not that you Tota king would have the ballz
to bring up that era, like others...he doesn't even have the ballz to recognize Somaliland 1st & on his own...but enjoy your shiney red plane proudly.[/b]
(Feel free to say i am jealous of your new Toy
)

Side note, this reminds me of when the TPLF/Meles pushed the Axum Obelisk issue to claim a PR victory/distraction. However they allowed Italy to circumcise/cut the Obelisk before returning it and they were celebrating it as a victory. If they were the true descendant heirs of the Axum empire, they would not have allowed it to be cut...reminds me of the King Solomon story of 2 mothers claiming one child and he proposed the child be cut in half (and the lying/thief mother agreed to the cutting, while the real mother objected).
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian ... 20Ethiopia
In the peace treaty of February 1947, Italy renounced sovereignty over its African colonies of Libya, Eritrea and Somalia (art. 23) and recognised the independence of Ethiopia (art. 33), by then a sovereign member of the United Nations.
Italy further agreed to:
• Pay War reparation of US$25,000,000 to Ethiopia
• Accept "Annex XI of the Treaty", upon the recommendation of the United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 390, that indicated that Eritrea was to be federated with Ethiopia.
After the war, the Italian Ethiopians were given a full pardon by the newly returned Emperor Haile Selassie, as he saw the opportunity to continue the modernization efforts of the country.[45] He declared that no reprisals would be taken against the Italians, and many remained for decades, until the overthrow of the Emperor in the Ethiopian Civil War in 1974. Nearly 22,000 Italo-Ethiopians took refuge in Italy during the 1970s.[45] Their main organization in Italy is the Associazione Italiana Profughi dall'Etiopia ed Eritrea (A.I.P.E.E.).[46]
There are more diqala Italio/Ethio than Italio/Eri. When Sicilians first arrived in Eritrea some lived with/married locals (and migrant agame) and vise versa...but then during the segregationist/fascist era of Mussolini and influx of Northern Italians, that was discouraged/outlawed. However, when Italian colonialists pushed further into Ethiopia and occupied Ethiopia for 5years, there was a resurgence of diqala (Italio/Ethios).

And then yet you are begging for millions of tons of wheat from the donor countries to feed a quarter of your people who are currently in desperate need of assistance.
What a joke.

I believe Abiy is playing smart here. He is repeating what he did to Lema.
Shime is sitting in his comfort zone with all his dogs by his side with his direct daily supervision. This makes Shime a formidable power, albeit not against Abiy yet. But, Abiy knows that he is losing his control over the region and his Cadres. When time comes, Shime will be have no one to counter him. Keep in mind that Abiy got the Oromo and Oromo only right now.
This force Abiy to think, what did we do to Weyane?
Therefore bring Shime closer to arat kilo. Which takes Shime away from the region and Shime losing his direct supervision over his dogs. By default Shime will lose his power by getting into a seemingly higher position.

I will counter/question what is the specific message that you are trying to narrate/analyze from the video you brought forth??
And i will raise you this video message that has been driving many on this forum crazy to know the straight forwarded-ness of the Lion Isayas unlike the cowardly Lying Abiy.
(At 3:26 to 6:26...even i wash shocked by Isayas and Eritrean delegation to bring up the subject at this time...while others simply took their tokenism awards
and shiney red toy planes 🛩
)
Also the Abiy minions seem to be too busy doing photo shop to make it appear as if Abiy is on Isayas mind or as if he is the one ignoring Issu
We all remember the non-photoshop pictures of Abiy desperately vying for Isayas attention at the Bricks meetings but seems Isayas moved on from the flip-flopping Tota king long ago.

Here is also another outward expression of "Lion Isayas'" Eritrea, you never disappoint to amaze someone.
But the good thing is that we know you all by now much too well.
If you were human enough, then you would have just sit down and took a gasp to think about the profound meaning of it is holiday both in Ethiopia and Eritrea, the two inseparably intertwined nations of the world.
